Q. I understand that businesses operating within the EU are required to register an EORI number. Could you provide me with a definition of the term EORI number? Additionally, do I need to reapply for it?

EORI number stands for Economic Operators Registration and Identification Number which is used in the system of the same name. It helps in the process of identifying companies. It is an EU-wide system for registering and identifying companies and individuals to customs authorities.

Businesses that declare exports or imports to customs must obtain an EORI number. It is also required when applying for an export permit at the Federal Office of Economic Affairs and Export Control (BAFA-Bundesamt für Wirtschaft Ausfuhrkontrolle).

The obligation to declare an EORI number already exists from the first import/export stage.
